Exporting. Open phpMyAdmin from cPanel, click your database in the left panel, then the Export tab. Quick and SQL format is right for almost everyone. You get a .sql file - that single file is your entire database.

Importing. Select the target database first, click Import, choose your file, then Go. Take a moment on that first step: importing into the wrong database is one of the few genuinely painful mistakes available here.

Large files. There is an upload ceiling on the import form, typically around 50 MB. If your dump is bigger:

  • Compress it to .sql.gz or .zip first. Compression on SQL is dramatic - a 200 MB dump often lands under 20 MB.
  • On a VPS or dedicated server, upload the file and import over SSH, which has no size limit at all.
  • Or open a ticket and we will run the import for you.

Before any import that overwrites live data, export the current version first. It takes thirty seconds and it is the only thing standing between you and a very bad afternoon.
