Most people overbuy. Here is an honest map.
Shared hosting suits brochure sites, blogs, portfolios, small business sites and most shops in their first year or two. If you are getting up to roughly fifty thousand visits a month and you are not running anything unusual, shared is not a compromise - it is the correct answer, and it is what the large majority of sites on the internet run on.
Reseller hosting is for agencies, freelancers and anyone hosting sites for other people. The deciding factor is not size but structure: you want separate cPanel accounts you can hand over, suspend and bill independently.
VPS is for when you need root access, specific software versions, or guaranteed resources that do not move around. Also the right call when your shared account is consistently at its resource limits with legitimate traffic.
Dedicated or colocation is for sustained heavy load, strict compliance requirements, or hardware you want to specify yourself.
Start smaller than you think you need. Upgrading is quick and we prorate what you have already paid; downgrading is more awkward and you will have paid for headroom you never used. If you are genuinely unsure, tell us your traffic and what you are running, and we will tell you honestly - including when the cheaper plan is the right one.
